The Golden Rule is to ‘Do unto others as you would have done unto you’. It starts with an appreciation of how we like to be treated by others. With kindness, care, empathy, love, acceptance, respect and forgiveness. To be encouraged, nurtured and helped. These are some of the things we should strive to reflect toward others. Many of us just mirror the way we are treated by returning the same treatment back to the other. It is as if we will only abide by The Golden Rule if we are being treated nicely…that’s easy. The Golden Rule is also misapplied when we have a ‘kill em with kindness’ attitude toward others. A kindness charade that is fueled by anger is just that, a charade. To truly abide by The Golden Rule is to continually treat others as we would like to be treated irrespective of whether or not we are being treated properly from others. Adherence to the Golden Rule is demonstrated when we react to mistreatment with genuine care, respect and love. We don’t allow the breaking of The Golden Rule by others to force us to break the rule also. Do unto others as we would have done to ourselves…if we all followed this advise…what a wonderful world it would be. What do you think? What have you done to show love and kindness despite the opposite from others?
